Who Can Use Data?

Anyone can view the list of public datasets and their accompanying metadata on the ODC at anytime without a user account. Downloading data requires a Basic Access User Account or higher - this ensures that data users agree to the data use agreement and terms & conditions of the ODC.

Use of the ODC and datasets hosted on the ODC should be cited. More information on reusing and citing data can be found below and in the Citation Guidelines.

Published Data

Downloading datasets from the Public Space requires a Basic Access User Account account or higher.

Use of published datasets (i.e., datasets in the Public Space) falls under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY v4.0), which allows anyone with access to use the contents of the dataset, but sets the legal obligation of giving appropriate credit to the authors of the data.

Unpublished Data

Downloading datasets from the Community Space requires a Community Access User Account or higher.

Use of unpublished datasets (i.e., datasets in the Community Space) is governed by the ODC-SCI and ODC-TBI Data Use Agreements. Unpublished data can be used by the downloader without requesting explicit permission, however any unpublished data used in works that will be made public (including but not limited to poster presentations, talks, and journal articles) must be granted explicit permission for use by the Laboratory's PI. The Laboratory PI has the right to refuse permission for their unpublished data to be used. The data user MUST contact the Laboratory PI to obtain explicit agreement and permission to use the unpublished data - use of unpublished data without the explicit agreement of the corresponding Laboratory PI is a violation of the Data Use Agreement.
