Publish (Activate) a DOI

Datasets are not automatically published and moved to the Public Space when the DOI is issued. This ensures researchers have control over when their data is published (i.e., no one can access the data before it should be available)

1

ODC Data Team approves dataset and reserves a DOI

Once the dataset is fully approved by both the Editorial Board and ODC Data Team, the DOI is reserved and the corresponding PI is notified via email

2

Go to your "Current Lab Space"

In the left side navigation pane, click "Current Lab Space" and find the dataset

3

Confirm your Lab User Role

You must be a Laboratory PI or Laboratory Manager to see the "Publish DOI" button - confirm your role by scrolling through the box titled "Users" (on Current Lab Space) and reviewing the Level assigned to you

4

Click the "Publish DOI" button

Click the green "Publish DOI" button when you are ready to activate the DOI and publish the dataset. Completing this step moves the dataset into the Public Space and makes the dataset landing page available from the "Explore public data" button on the ODC home page

Final approval is controlled by the PI

While this final step is usually very quick, it may take up to 24 hours for the DOI to become live

5

Congratulations, you have officially published a dataset!

You now have a citable, FAIR dataset that can be added as a tangible marker of your research productivity to a CV or progress report, or directly cited in manuscripts, pre-prints, or other academic works!
